ABOUT THE ORGANISATION Our client is the peak organisation representing young people and youth services in NSW. It works towards a society where all young people are supported, engaged and valued. To achieve this, it is the role of the organisation to: - respond to social and political agendas relating to young people and the youth services sector
- provide proactive leadership and advocacy and shape the agenda on issues affecting young people and youth services
- collaborate on issues that affect young people and youth workers
- promote a positive profile in the media and the community of young people and youth services
- build capacity for young people to speak out and take action on issues that affect them
- enhance the capacity of the youth services sector to provide high quality services
- ensure organisational development, efficiency, effectiveness and good governance
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY MAJOR OBJECTIVES To ensure the effective management and development of the organisation in accordance with its goals and policies, particularly in the areas of personnel, policy, finance, promotion and advocacy. Your key accountabilities: - coordinate the development of policy on a broad range of youth issues
- coordinate campaigns and develop and implement media strategies
- develop and maintain links with State and Federal governments, non-government organisations, and other stakeholders (including business) on issues and actively encourage networking in the State youth affairs sector
- act as a media contact and spokesperson on behalf of the organisation
- ensure effective management of the organisation and staff
- seek funding to develop the organisation
- ensure that all legal and financial requirements of the organisation are met, and develop and monitor financial planning within the organisation
- evaluate goals, objectives, projects and achievements via regular structured evaluation sessions
ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS To be considered for the position you must have significant management experience and a contemporary attitude toward young people. Essential to the position are outstanding communication and interpersonal skills appropriate with the range of stakeholders with whom you will liaise, including young people, government representatives, community leaders and CEOs of other organisations. You will demonstrate the ability to develop meaningful stakeholder relationships. This is vital role within the organisation and your suitability will be measured against critical skills and competencies: - relevant tertiary degree
- a sound grasp of youth policy issues
- a commitment to the effective representation of the Youth of NSW
- knowledge of public policy processes
- oral and written communication skills of a high order
- demonstrated ability to manage campaigns to lobby for change
- strong organisational and administrative skills
- ability to work in a consultative environment
- demonstrated understanding of project management
- ability to work as part of a team
