Mater Health Services and its 8000 staff and volunteers provide exceptional care to approximately 500 000 people each year.

We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from the following skilled and experienced health care professionals:   

Midwives  

The new Mater Mothers’ Hospital and Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital are the premier maternity facility in the Southern Hemisphere. With an anticipated 10 000 births each year, the hospitals comprise 88 public and 90 private maternity beds, and16 birthing rooms. We provide antenatal, perinatal and postnatal services, and specialise in managing severe complications during pregnancy, as well as newborn disorders.   

Neonatology Nurses  

Mater’s Neonatal Critical Care Unit is an accredited 79 cot facility, providing 37 Neonatal Intensive Care cots and 42 Special Care Nursery cots. The unit also includes an active Newborn Emergency Transport Service, which cares for approximately 150 newborn retrievals each year. 

The Neonatal Practice Development Team provides leadership and support for clinician education and structure for all new staff to the unit. 

Mater Health Services strongly believe in supporting nurses to further their education. Funding is available for 20 neonatal nurses to complete their Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing - Neonatal Care, each year.  

Please note:  All nursing and midwifery applicants must have current registration with the Queensland Nursing Council.  

Neonatology Fellows  

Mater is the largest provider of maternity services in Queensland and is a university affiliated tertiary referral centre for neonatal and perinatal medicine. Mater Mothers’ Hospitals’ 79 cot neonatal service provides all facets of neonatal care. This includes care for infants with extreme prematurity, neonatal surgery, multidisciplinary long-term follow up and an active neonatal retrieval service.  

The University Department of Paediatrics offers teaching and research opportunities.  This position would be a great opportunity for Specialist registrars with an interest in neonatal/perinatal medicine to undertake a year of specialist neonatology training. 

 All applicants must be:    

  • accredited with the RACP (Division of Paediatrics) for basic and advanced training in general paediatrics and neonatal/perinatal medicine 
  • able to be registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Queensland.
